How do i talk to him more?

okay so i am dating this guy named jeramy. now he has liked me forever and so have i, he finally had enough guts to ask me out and i love him as a boyfriend but every time we hang out we can never find anything to talk about. he always asks me why i'm so shy but sometimes i feel he hardly says anything at all either. our physical chemistry is great but we can never just talk. i need some advice on how to talk to him and what, i really want this relationship to last!
