Chord patterns to strum a song on guitar?

Could anybody give me some patterns they use to strum a tune? For example, C to AM, to G, back to C, to AM. Like that, but obviously I am not aware of any patterns that will produce a song, I just know the chords and able to change chords on guitar pretty quickly, So if anybody knows some, please say, thanks.
