My guitar has too much tension to play frets?

It's not good if the strings don't budge. Did you tune the guitar? The previous owner (for some odd, unexplained reason) may have tightened the strings. When you play, your fingers should ouch down to the fret board with your fingers as close to the bottom of the fret as possible. Good luck
