Does it matter which strumming pattern I use?

Hi Ive just started playing guitar and Im learning Taylor Swift Teardrops on my guitar does it matter which strumming pattern I use? I saw on youtube someone doing it with DU/DU/DUbut then i saw someone else doing DDU/DDU the first is ALOT eaiser obviously for a beginner like me. Does it make any real difference which strumming pattern I use? And which one should I do? :) Thanks
