Clever guitar peeps: what is 'finger style' on guitar?

You are a flat picker, their is also flamenco style which they play using a toque technique which I am least familiar with they attack the guitar different and actually strum and pick with fingers, also classical guitars taught generally in a specific way of posturing with the guitar, I am most familiar with old blues finger picking every one has their own way of attacking the guitar Reverend Gary Davis a Master in th e Piedmont blues style used only his thumb and index finger and rested his other 3 fingers on the face of the guitar he also used a thumb pick and a finger pick he said to save his fingers which if you watch his playing you will see why, while Mississippi John Hurt generally used thumb, index, and middle fingers with no picks he also rested his hand on the soundboard of the guitar as did generally all the old blues players, then let's talk about Travis picking named for Merle Travis is generally know as picking with Thumb(P),Index(I),Middle(M),Ring(A) though merle himself only used his amazing thumb, pointer, and middle and kept others braced on guitar he generally used thumb and finger picks he also used his thumb on his left hand to fret 5th & 6th steings, their is also flat picking style known as Carter Picking after the Carter Family which has steady bass then the melody picked on higher strings, I'll leave you with some fingerpicking to check out Reverend Gary Davis- Sampson and Delilah(try to find video one of my favorites watch all his little tricks), Blind Blake one of the best ever actually could use his thumb to play in a Charleston beat and played what they call rag time, Big Bill Broonzy, Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie Mctell(played 12 string), Blind Willie Johnson-Dark was the night cold was the ground(played with slide), Tampa Red a great slide player, Scrapper Blackwell, Lead Belly (12 string), Lonnie Johnson, Lightnin Hopkins, Chet Atkins, Mississippi John Hurt,doc Watson ,Robert Johnson, Frank Stokes, Pink Anderson, Mance Lipscomb, also check out Lenny Breau These are some of the old greats their are some good musicians nowadays that play in Travis picking style but I don't know their names of the top of my head also Townes Van Zandt is a great artist one of my favorite song writers who does great fingerpicking, also Ramblin Jack Elliott- Don't think twice It's alright has some great fingerpicking he does it different then Bob Dylan who Wrote the song who is Great as is Woody Guthrie, Cisco Houston, Sonny Terry Brownie McGhee Check out as much as this music as you can also if you wanna here some amazing bass check out Stanley Clarke, Victor Wooten, and Marcus Miller TO ME THESE ARE SOME OF THE GREATEST MUSICIANS OF ALL TIME
