Barre chords help!! the guitar makes no sound!?

when i try to finger barre chords, like G7sus4, when i strum, it makes no sound or only some string have sound and it sound very bad.. is there any technique to make it sound nice? or should i change a acoustic guitar? help me solve it thx!! :)
